From Monaco to Bognor Regis

As many of you will know by now, we went to Monaco for the Monaco Yacht Show at the end of September. We had a day in one of the most affluent places in the world; connotations ranging from extreme luxury to the jewel in the crown of F1.

Immersing myself with my target clientele and the atmosphere of luxury was the intention for the trip - to see how the superrich go about their day. That and walking the corners of one of the most famous race tracks in the world.

On the corner of La Rascasse, we bumped into Novus Bikes. They have designed and launched a new ultra lightweight carbon fibre electric bike that weighs the same as a push bike. It looks classy, it looks unique and if you want to go hunting, there is a picture of me on the bike on LinkedIn. Upon exchanging business ideas, the Novus team told me to check out a composite company in Bognor Regis who make their frames.

Cut to the evening, sunburnt, exhausted and enthused, there was just enough time for a drink before the flight home. My brother strikes up a conversation with two men at the bar. They make carbon fibre lifts for super yachts (If you don’t think they exists, they do!) and guess who make their parts? Same company in Bognor Regis – “you need to go down and see them!”.

Upon retuning to a miserable England, we go down to see this company in Bognor Regis. The Technical Director used to work for My Dad’s first ever boss and we have multiple mutual connections. They explain what they are able to achieve and there is definitely potential in the partnership.

All this because we went to Monaco for a day. We randomly spoke to many people that day and it is a stark reminder that the world works in mysterious ways. A chance encounter is all it takes to take you from where you are now, to where you want to be. Hard work will always be done, tenacity is always the name of the game, but when opportunity comes knocking, you’ve got to be ready to open the door.

I don’t know yet who will end up being our commercial manufacturing partner but I do enjoy the journey I am on purely for reasons like that. New connections, new ideas and increased levels of excitement all out of a chance encounter on one of the most famous corners in F1.
