As we know, there is desperate need for change within the fashion industry. Current practices are not eco-friendly but they are economically friendly. This is the problem. Bad materials are cheap. Bad labour is cheap.

Walking around the high street shops, I was hit by how every ladies fashion shops sell the same things, with different labels on them at wildly different prices. Coats, jumpers, trousers, jeans, they are all the same styles, same colours just a different brand name on the neck. It’s crazy.

Where has innovation gone?

Where has the creativity of designers gone? Where have the different styles for different people gone? Where has individuality gone? Where is our authenticity? We’re all buying the same clothes from different places to all look the same! We are individuals and we should have our own identity. For generations, this has been fashion’s purpose – to show others who we are.

This has been eradicated due to money. Once again, greed takes over and it’s all about the profits. All about the cheapest way to get to an ideal outcome. The outcome being, we all flock to the same manufacturers (cheapest ones) and buy the same things.

Where we are different:

Lucy Rose is different. Firstly we have developed an innovative product which means there will be nothing out there which is exactly the same. Secondly, we will be using completely novel materials in the manufacturing process that have ever been used in women’s shoes – another point of differentiation. Thirdly, we will be making everything within the UK using sustainable materials which can be either recycled or re-used.

We will pride ourselves on Quality, Innovation and Sustainability. This does mean however, we won’t be able to make these as cheap as our high street counterparts. Knowing what I know in regards to manufacture and the associated costs, I squirm when I hear shoes being sold for £20. Somewhere along the line, I don’t think someone’s had a fair deal there. Of course, economies of scale have to be bought into consideration, and that will be something that I don’t think we would be easily able to achieve, nor necessarily want to.

What you can do:

Lucy Rose shoes are to be unique in so many ways. Because of this, not everyone will want them or like them. That’s okay because we will appeal to those who do. If you think you’ll be one of those, then sign up to join us on our adventure to change the world.

Until next time, Em x
